Paul boldly evaluates real estate property values, performs market analysis assessments and implements strategies to save clients millions of dollars in overpaid tax expenses. In addition to reviewing assessment notices and determining whether assets are valued accurately, Paul works with municipalities to file amended returns and appeals, represents clients at tax judicial and jurisdictional entities, negotiates and obtains settlements, and tracks client refunds.
Paul has extensive experience with manufacturing, complex properties, office, retail, multi-family, hospitality, warehouse/distribution, medical, industrial and special use property types.
Paul has more than 20 years of experience managing fixed assets, providing audit defense support, obtaining incentives, property tax appeals/appeal management, and performing financial reporting and revenue forecasts.
Notable achievements during his career include helping a complex utility company save 60 percent in personal property taxes and assisting a major multi-location retailer in saving 35 percent on real estate taxes. Paul formed Cardinal Tax Advisors in 2019.
Paul supports education by presenting on a range of trending tax topics at events for the Original Equipment Suppliers Association, Michigan Electric Cooperative Association, Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants, Michigan Tax Conference and Nexia International. He also leads property tax trainings for clients and their associates.
Paul authored the article “Property tax: A fixed expense?” featured in Rehmann's BWD magazine.
Paul is an active volunteer for community organizations including Historic Trinity, Lutheran North High School, Trinity Lutheran Church and School, Pelotonia, and Leaders Dogs for the Blind.
Paul is a University of Michigan - School of Business graduate and member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation (IPT).
